EEOC v. Vail Run is Case of the Year
Thursday’s Colorado Trial Lawyers Association Case of the Year Award dinner served as a look back to the largest cases of 2016 as well as on the 32-year tenure of the organization’s retiring executive director, John Sadwith.
The CTLA, at its annual dinner at the Denver Marriott City Center, gave its biggest recognition of the year to Rathod Mohamedbhai, which received its third Case of the Year recognition, with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Colorado Attorney General’s Office.
This year’s winning case was EEOC v. Vail Run Resorts, a worker’s rights case that Rathod Mohamedbhai partner Qusair Mohamedbhai said “exposed the seedy underbelly of the Vail Valley.” At Thursday’s dinner, a video on the case was presented mostly in Spanish, underscoring that there is often a barrier for undocumented workers to understanding their rights and seeking justice. Qusair Mohamedbhai said as a conclusion to the case, it was satisfying to also get visas for their clients in the case.
Videos for all of the nominated cases featured the social impact they each have and how they set precedents for other cases to follow.
