Lauren S. Yi
Lauren is a Legal Assistant with Rathod Mohamedbhai LLC. She joined the Rathod Mohamedbhai team in 2018. Lauren is passionate about civil rights and reaching underserved communities at the local, national, and global levels. She is a proud second-generation Korean American woman. She speaks bilingual Korean and recently travelled to South Korea for the second time to explore the home of her ancestors.
Lauren graduated in May of 2018 from Grinnell College in Iowa with a major in Sociology. Her research in college focused on various facets and the implications of diaspora, including transnational adoptions and refugees in the United States. In keeping with her passions, Lauren volunteered as a mentor for Big Brother Big Sister and spent many hours tutoring incarcerated juveniles in reading and math. She cofounded the Liberty in North Korea student chapter at Grinnell, where she fundraised to support human rights initiatives in North Korea and participated in the Princeton for North Korea Human Rights Intercollegiate Conference in 2016. Seeking to increase her perspectives on human and civil rights on a global level, Lauren also studied abroad while in college in Germany and volunteered with a refugee resettlement program there.
In addition to civil and human rights, Lauren is passionate about food equity and justice. At Grinnell, Lauren volunteered to deliver meals to those in need and collaborated with other organizations on campus to ensure that local communities that are typically more susceptible to food insecurity did not go hungry. She worked as a food management intern at an elderly community center that outsources meals to the immobile, built partnerships with local food justice-oriented non-profit organizations in Tennessee, and co-managed the student run cooperative café at Grinnell.
Lauren intends to have a long, dedicated career working in civil and human rights. In her spare time, however, Lauren is a stand-out golfer who helped the Grinnell Women’s Golf team dominate Division III athletics in the Midwest Conference.
